NASA: Near-Miss Asteroids & Other Objects October 29, 2006

I was recently surprised to learn that we have “near misses” with asteroids and other space objects on a regular basis.
SEE FOR YOURSELF…
NASA tracks possible near-miss objects on their web site. >>Click here to see upcoming, predicted events and the proximity to the earth. **PLEASE NOTE that this page is querying substantial data and it takes a few moments for this page to load.
YIKES! WHEN’S THE NEXT NEAR-MISS EVENT.
Near-miss events happen often. In fact, tomorrow, October 30, 2006, a near-miss is predicted. In this case, the object is estimated to pass 268,800 kilometers from the Earth. To put this in perspective, the distance between the Earth and the Moon is, on average, 384,401 kilometers. Therefore, this object will pass closer than the Moon.
| Object |
Close-Approach Date (TDB) YYYY-mmm-DD HH:MM ± D_HH:MM |
Miss Distance Nominal (LD/AU) |
Miss Distance Minimum (LD/AU) |
V relative (km/s) |
V infinity (km/s) |
N sigma |
H (mag) |
| (2006 UJ185) | 2006-Oct-30 16:43 ± < 00:01 | 0.7/0.0018 | 0.7/0.0018 | 15.60 | 15.50 | 1.29e+03 | 27.9 |
1 AU = ~150 million kilometers
1 LD = Lunar Distance = ~384,000 kilometers
HOW OFTEN DO THESE NEAR-MISS EVENTS OCCUR?
The table below shows a typical week’s near-miss activity. As you can see, close fly-bys are fairly common. (See the October 21st entry, in particular).

Ocean ‘dead zones’ increasing fast October 25, 2006

In marine biology terms, ‘dead zones’ are oxygen-deficient coastal areas. When there’s no oxygen, fish and other aquatic life cannot survive.
Sadly, the number of dead zones is rapidly increasing around the world. Caused by fossil fuels, pollution, other contaminants and possibly influenced by global warming, worldwide dead zones have increased to 200 — up from 149 only two years ago.
MSNBC reported on October 23, 2006, that these dead zones have now spread around the world at an alarming rate.
“Today, the best known is in the Gulf of Mexico, where fertilizers and other algae-multiplying nutrients are dumped by the Mississippi River.
“Newly observed dead zones include ones in:
- Archipelago Sea, Finland
- Fosu Lagoon, Ghana
- Pearl River Estuary and Changjiang River, China
- Mersey Estuary, United Kingdom
- Elefsis Bay, Greece
- Paracas Bay, Peru
- Mondego River, Portugal
- Montevideo Bay, Uruguay
- Western Indian Shelf.
What’s the impact? United Nations experts warn that “these areas are fast becoming major threats to fish stocks and thus to the people who depend upon fisheries for food and livelihoods.”
The Book of Revelation in the Bible mentions that sea life will die during the End Times. (See the Disasters: Red Tide Category for another article containing these specific Bible verses.)

Coral Reefs Dying from Global Warming October 25, 2006

Mat Probasco of the Associated Press reported on October, 25, 2006, that “researchers fear more than half the world’s coral reefs could die in less than 25 years and say global warming may at least partly to blame.”
“Last year’s coral loss in the Caribbean waters supports predictions that 60 percent of the world’s coral could die within a quarter century, said Tyler Smith of the University of the Virgin Islands.”
“Up to 30 percent of the world’s coral reefs have died in the last 50 years, and another 30 percent are severely damaged, said Smith, who studies coral health in the U.S. Virgin Islands and collaborates with researchers globally.”

Middle East Conflict: Sign of the End? October 25, 2006

Helen T. Gray of the McClatchy Newspapers summarized in the Billings Gazette on October 14, 2006, the views of two leading Biblical prophecy teachers regarding the role of the current Middle East conflict in End Times Prophecy.
Gray compares the thoughts and writings of John Hagee and Stephen J. Stein. But don’t expect harmonious agreement between the two authors. Hagee believes that the End Times are at our doorstep, while Stein maintains that the signs are no more prevalent now than they’ve ever been.

Red Tide Tracking – Florida October 25, 2006

Red Tide turns seawater red due to algae. The Bible mentions in the Book of Revelation that waters will turn red (blood) in the End Times. Could red tide in fact be the substance to which Revelation terms “blood”?
Below is a good resource for tracking Florida Red Tide…NOAA Weather Center. However, please note that red tide blooms can occur in various parts of the country and around the world.
Chinese River Mysteriously Turns Red October 25, 2006

Audra Ang, an Associated Press Writer, reported on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, that a half-mile section of China’s Yellow River had turned “red and smelly.” (CLICK HERE TO VIEW A PHOTO OF IT.)
Excerpts from the article: (READ THE FULL ARTICLE…CLICK HERE)
“Kang Mingke, an official with the city’s environment protection bureau, said there were no chemical plants located nearby, according to Xinhua. He said the red water could have come from central heating companies who dye their hot water to prevent people from diverting it for their own use, the news agency said.”
“John Hocevar, an oceans specialist for Greenpeace USA, said that the photos he had seen of the spill might indicate a “red tide,” a burst of toxic plankton in the water, spurred by the presence of nutrient-rich waste from the sewage spill.”
“Alternatively, he said industrial toxins could have caused the red color. “It’s too early to say what’s exactly in this,” he said. “It could be just about anything.”"
Bible verses from the Book of Revelation (KJV) about waterways turning to blood:
And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood. – Rev 8:8
And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea. – Rev 16:3
And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood. – Rev 16:4
